West Michigan gardens benefit from the cooler spring temperatures

Cool weather is a welcome sight for gardeners as they get ready for planting season.

Slightly cooler than average temperatures might not be what most people in West Michigan want to see as we welcome in spring, but it's good news for gardeners.

Katey Romence of Romence Gardens on the northeast side of Grand Rapids explains that our last chance for frost isn't until mid- to late-May. "I think what's really tricky about gardening is that we are all itching to get our hands in the dirt," she jokes.

Now is the time for cleaning out garden beds and getting them ready for planting; which you can look forward to starting in about two weeks.
