Man faces charges in fatal shooting at The Orchards apartments

WALKER, Mich. — One person is in custody after a fatal shooting at The Orchards apartment complex in Walker early Monday.

The 23-year-old suspect is expected to be arraigned Tuesday, April 17 for the shooting death of 29-year-old Nicholas Scott Burns.

Walker police say they were called to 966 4 Mile Road NW just before 3 a.m. Monday, April 16. Arriving officers found Burns with a fatal gunshot wound. The alleged gunman was taken into custody without incident.

The suspect, who has an address in White Cloud, has a history of mental health issues. A Kent County Probate Court judge ordered him into treatment following a 2014 disturbance in Walker, court records show.

He is being held in the Kent County Jail.
