Running of the Ducks held at Ken-O-Sha Park Elementary in Grand Rapids

Every year, a mother duck leads her ducklings through the halls of Ken-O-Sha Park Elementary to the Plaster Creek area.

For more than a decade, a mother duck has been nesting in the courtyard of Ken-O-Sha Park Elementary School in Grand Rapids.

Every spring, the duck pecks on the door to let students and staff know that she is ready to lead her ducklings into the wild. The school then makes sure that the mother duck follows the right hallways to get her ducklings outside.

The eggs recently hatched, and the school arranged for the official running to take place on Friday, April 20.

"The ducks keep coming back year after year," said Principal Stephanie Villalta. "They seem to trust us to safely help them get out of the enclosed school area and into the natural Plaster Creek area, where they belong."
