ALLENDALE, Mich. -- Dozens of West Michigan Boy Scouts now have a better understanding of how solar energy works, thanks to a Solar Garden Tour hosted by Consumers Energy today.

The Solar Gardens are a 17 acre, 11,000 solar panel facility in Allendale.

Consumers Energy's West Generation Green Team and its Women's Engineering Network hosted the event which included tours of the Solar Garden. The scouts also did activities like making solar fans, checking out electrical demonstrations and more.

This is the first event of its kind at the Solar Garden, which became operational in 2016.
