Here's a spectacular view of the Mackinac Bridge from outer space

The International Space Station shared an overhead view of Michigan's iconic suspension bridge spanning the Straits of Mackinac.

Looking at the Mackinac Bridge is pleasant from just about any angle - especially in person - but here's a view you don't see every day.

The International Space Station posted an overhead satellite view of the 5-mile suspension bridge earlier this week in a 4-photo gallery on Facebook that also shows overhead views of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; the East Coast of the United States; and the Galapagos Islands.

"From a city in the desert to a bridge separating two huge lakes, the station crew has a unique vantage point to picture Earth's natural and man-made features," the post says.

The photo of the Mackinac Bridge has been shared more than 4,200 times from the International Space Station's page.

The Mackinac Bridge, which opened in 1957, connects Michigan's Lower and Upper Peninsulas and spans the Straits of Mackinac between Lake Michigan to the west and Lake Huron to the east.
