Grant Me Hope: Javon

Meet this week's Grant Me Hope child, 17-year-old Javon.

Javon shows the kind of empathy that will take him far.

First of all, his former foster parent calls Javon a caring and helpful young man. “He enjoys helping others,” says his worker. And he enjoys celebrating Christmas by giving instead of receiving. Even though he can be shy, Javon warms up once he gets to know others.

When he spends time with friends, Javon likes going to the movies together. Javon also enjoys playing on his phone and playing video games. His other favorite things include chicken for food, blue for color and dogs for animal. If he could visit anywhere in the world, Javon would want to travel to New Jersey because – in his words – “it seems like a cool place.”

When he gets older, Javon wants to become a shoe designer. With his future forever family, Javon wants to do things together such as go to the mall.

Javon has overcome a great deal of disappointment and letdowns in his young life. He would benefit from encouragement and support as he works to cope with his emotions.

At school, Javon would benefit from assistance to help him function at his best. Javon adds that his favorite subject in school is math.

Javon would do best with one or two experienced parents who have knowledge of the impact of trauma on a child. Javon wants to be the youngest or only child in the home. His new forever family must be willing to advocate for the services that will help Javon thrive at home and in school.

Finally, it is important to Javon that he is allowed to maintain contact with his siblings, as these are significant relationships to him.
