Muskegon's Western Market opens over Memorial Day weekend

The city began offering the small retail space in downtown Muskegon last year.

MUSKEGON, Mich. - The Western Market in Muskegon opens to shoppers for the season on Saturday, May 26.

This year there are 17 of the mini retail chalets at the market, and all of them sell a variety of products from homemade breads to home decor and clothing.

The city began offering the small retail space in downtown Muskegon last year. Because the idea was so successful, it was expanded for this season.

On Friday, shopkeepers were preparing their retail spaces for the upcoming opening. They are hoping for a summer with great weather.

The shops are open Wednesday through Saturday, and starting in July they will be open on Sundays. They are located on Western Avenue, just one block from the Muskegon Farmer's Market.

There will be a bounce house on Saturday, May 26 for the opening of the shops.
