Tears and anger at vigil for 6-year-old girl killed in hit-and-run

More than 100 people gathered in Muskegon Heights Monday night many shouting "Justice for Taylor!"

MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. — MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. - There were tears and anger at a vigil on Monday night for 6-year-old Taylor Davis.

"The thing I'm mad about is why didn't you at least stop? Don't you have sympathy?" says one woman at the gathering.

Davis was struck by a vehicle on 6th Street in Muskegon Heights on June 10 and died from her injuries.

Police say 19-year-old Dakota Welch is responsible. He's now in custody and facing multiple charges. Welch did not have a drivers license and had been arrested multiple times.

"It's an atrocity that it got to this level. Why is this person behind the wheel of any car? He says that it's his employer's vehicle, but there is, still, that's not an excuse. He is not a licensed driver and he has apparently not been a licensed driver for some time," says Monique Bailey, a family member.

Welch is due back in court in a few weeks.
