Grand Rapids City Commission adopts 2019 fiscal plan

The $590 million spending plan lowers the city's property tax millage rate.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Grand Rapids City Commission adopted the city's 2019 budget on Tuesday evening, June 12.

The $590 million spending plan lowers the city's property tax millage rate, and it also invests in projects related to affordable housing, community and police relations, legacy costs and economic development.

Some of the highlights from the budget are:

  • A $590,000 investment in the Affordable Housing Fund
  • A $1 million appropriation for projects that strengthen community and police relations
  • Investing $4.2 million to renovate, repair or reconstruct eight city-owned parks
