KALAMAZOO, Mich. - A date has been set by the Michigan Court of Appeals to hear arguments in the case of Jason Dalton, a part-time Uber driver accused in a deadly shooting rampage in Kalamazoo County.
Dalton is charged with killing six people and injuring two in the Feb. 2016 shooting spree in the Kalamazoo area. Dalton faces six counts of murder and two counts of assault with intent to murder.
Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeffrey S. Getting said a three-judge panel in Grand Rapids will hear arguments on July 10.
At issue is what evidence will be allowed in the upcoming trial. A Kalamazoo County judge ruled that statements Dalton made to police after his arrest were fair game. Dalton's attorney objected and asked the Court of Appeals to weigh in.
When the Court of Appeals declined to take up the case, Dalton's lawyer asked the state Supreme Court to intervene. Justices in March told the Appeals Court to hear arguments, setting the stage for the July 10th hearing.
