Accused Plainwell bank robber arrested walking along U.S. 131

The robbery happened Thursday morning and forced an evacuation of downtown Plainwell.

WATSON TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Officers with the Plainwell Department say they've arrested a man accused of robbing a PNC Bank, claiming he had a bomb in his backpack.

They say he's a 51-year-old man from Florida. He was walking along U.S. 131 south of M-222 and was found by Michigan State Police around 1 a.m. on Friday, June 15. He's currently being held in the Allegan County Jail and will face charges in federal court.

The robbery Thursday morning forced the evacuation of downtown Plainwell. No one was allowed to come in or out until 2 p.m.
