Former East Kentwood track star takes on the world

A former Falcon and current Mr. Track and Field in Michigan is taking on the best runners from across the world.

TAMPERE, Finland -- Now that he's left his senior high school track season in the dust, Khance Meyers is ready for a new challenge.

The sprinter has been competing at the IAAF World U20 Championships across the Atlantic Ocean. The event started Tuesday, July 10 and runs through Sunday, July 15.

This week after winning one of his heats, Meyers spoke to reporters from IAFF.

"I feel amazing, working on my starting stuff, you know. I just feel grateful. I thank God. It was a lot of work but I mean I did it," he said.

It's been humid in Finland, but Meyers says he's used to it.

"I've raced in 120 [degree] weather," he said.

We spoke with some of Khance's friends, who want everyone to know that his runs will air on the Olympic Channel at 2:25 p.m. and 6 p.m. Friday. He's expected to return to West Michigan Friday.
