Things to keep in mind when price matching Amazon's Prime Day

Many stores say they will price match Amazon.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Amazon's Prime Day is now the second biggest shopping event of the year.

That kind of success has other retailers trying to cash in on the spending extravaganza. Home Depot, Bed Bath & Beyond, Joann Fabrics and others say they will price match Amazon in most cases.

When trying to price match at retailers across West Michigan there are a couple things to keep in mind.

"It has to be the identical product down to the model number," said Alan Wisneski who works at the Best Buy in Walker. "We do price match our brick-and-mortar competitors as well as our online competitors such a Walmart, Target and Amazon. Tthey have to have it in stock and it has to be shipped and sold by that competitor for us to price match.

That last point is what we heard over and over from retailers when trying to price match with Amazon. The seller must be Amazon and not one of the third party retailers that also sell on the site.

"It has to be shipped and sold by that reputable source, like Walmart, Target and Amazon. If it's not by them, you have to look at the fine print. There are third party retailers in there and we like to stay away from them," says Wisneski.
