CHESHIRE TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- A part-time resident of Bloomingdale has died after drowning in Eagle Lake in southern Allegan County.

Deputies say they were called out to the lake just before 6:30 p.m. on Monday, July 16. By that time, family members had already found the man and pulled him to shore.

They say the victim had been in the water near a dock but went out too far and couldn't touch the bottom. He didn't know how to swim.

The man was taken to a Kalamazoo area hospital where he was pronounced dead. His name is not being released at this time.
