Newlyweds killed in 3 car crash on M-40 in Allegan County

Allegan County Deputies say a west bound vehicle on 128th Avenue missed the stop sign and was hit by a vehicle heading north on M-40.

HEATH TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Two people are dead following a three vehicle crash in Allegan County. Police identified them as Logan Thunderland Albaugh, 24, from Holland, and his wife Hannah Mae Kwekel, 22, from Zeeland.

The two had only been married for two weeks.

"They were some of the most amazing people I have ever met in my life. They were textbook edition of true love. I mean I've never seen anyone like the two of them," Derek Rice, Hannah's friend and a wedding attendee told 13 ON YOUR SIDE.

"Just saw her and I shared some of the most amazing experiences of her life and now she's gone."

The crash happened around 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17, at the intersection of M-40 (Lincoln Road) and 128th Avenue about three miles south of Hamilton.

Allegan County Deputies say a westbound vehicle on 128th Avenue missed the stop sign and was hit by a vehicle heading north on M-40, which was occupied by Albaugh and Kwekel.

The crash sent the northbound vehicle into the southbound lanes hitting a third vehicle.

The at fault driver was uninjured in the crash, the third driver suffered minor injuries.

"We're unsure at this point why that individual drove through the stop sign," Sgt. Morgan Sullivan said at the crash scene Tuesday evening.

"Like I said that's under investigation."

Allegan County authorities told 13 ON YOUR SIDE Wednesday morning they were still waiting for lab results before they determine what charges they'll send to the Prosecutor's office. Authorities said the driver retained an attorney and is no longer talking.

"She was the most loving person I've ever met in my whole life," Rice said. "I'm a mess, emotionally, it feels horrible."

Now Rice just wants people to be cautious as he realizes how precious life is.

"Stop sign and lights are there for a reason, just stop it's not that hard it takes ten seconds just stop," he said.
