Scammers pretending to be with the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office

Police say that residents are getting calls from people posing as members of the sheriff's office.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office is warning people to be aware of calls they might get from people pretending to work for the sheriff's office.

Police say residents are receiving calls from people posing as representatives from the sheriff's office, and the callers tell people that there is a warrant out for their arrest or their are in violation of a restraining order.

The callers will then try to con the residents in to providing personal information, credit card information or have them buy gift cards to pay off a court order.

Police say that these scams have happened before in various areas, but they are active in Kalamazoo County right now.

The sheriff's office is reminding people to be cautious of these calls and to not give out personal information to anyone who calls you.
