Approximately 15 acres burned in Walker grass fire

A large grass fire is now under control in Walker, thanks to multiple municipalities' response.

WALKER, Mich. - Multiple municipalities are to thank for joining efforts and getting a large grass fire under control in Walker on Tuesday, Aug. 14.

Seven local fire departments responded to the blaze in the area of Wilson Avenue and Butterworth Street shortly after 2 p.m. Crews on scene told 13 ON YOUR SIDE it was under control around 3:30 p.m.

Approximately 15 acres were destroyed.

The combination of breezy conditions, very warm temperatures and extremely dry ground will lead to additional fire concerns until we get a good rain.

If you see a grass fire, report it immediately by calling 911.
