LIVINGSTON, Mont. - Montana authorities say the body of a 39-year-old Michigan man who was reported missing in the Crazy Mountains has been found. He has been identified as Brett Adam Barron of Manistee.

Park County Sheriff's Sgt. Brad Bichler says in a statement that searchers found Barron on Tuesday in Sweet Grass County northeast of Livingston.

The statement says a Gallatin County search and rescue heli-alpine team recovered the body from a steep, rocky chute. He was hiking by himself and fell 100 feet off a steep rocky cliff in the Crazy Mountains and died.

Officials say Barron was a volunteer for the Rocky Mountain Goat Alliance counting mountain goats for a project with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks.

He was reported missing Monday after hiking that day in rugged terrain near Cave Lake.
