Volunteers, teams needed for Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure later this year

The 2018 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure is happened at Ah-Nab-Awen Park in Grand Rapids on Sept. 15.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- One of West Michigan's largest breast cancer events is coming up soon, meaning it's time to start the prep work!

The 2018 Race for the Cure is happening on Saturday, September 15 at Ah-Nab-Awen Park downtown Grand Rapids. Hundreds of people participate and raise money for breast cancer screening, education and treatment, and for this particular race, 75-percent of the net proceeds stay in West Michigan.

Jen Henkel, the director of donor relations at Susan G. Komen Michigan, joined 13 ON YOUR SIDE to share details about the event and what the community can do to help the non-profit.

Now is the time to sign up to volunteer for the race or start organizing a team to help raise money. More information about how to do either of those things can be found here.

The goal of Susan G. Komen is to help reduce the current numbers of breast cancer deaths by 50 percent in the U.S. by 2026.
