LANSING, Mich. - A third person has died following a one-vehicle crash Sunday night where a car drove into a wall at the new Pattengill School, formerly the Fairview Elementary School.

An 11-year-old girl died Monday afternoon, following the death of her mother, 36-year-old Gardenia Herrera, and her mother's boyfriend, 43-year-old Jose Angel Aguilera. The family was in Lansing from Weslaco, Texas.

The girl's two siblings, ages 5 and 10, were in stable condition as of Tuesday morning. All three children were in critical condition the day after the crash.

The car Aguilera was driving hit the new Pattengill School at 11 p.m. Sunday, causing significant damage to part of the newly renovated school.

School will begin as planned Aug. 27, Lansing School District spokesperson Robert Kolt said.
