Holland Christian quarterback Wilson Wirebaugh threw three first half touchdown passes, as the Maroons led Zeeland East at halftime, 21-20.
It was all Chix after that.
Zeeland East used a devastating rushing attack to defeat the Maroons, 56-35.
Zeeland East quarterback Gabe Taylor took over in the second half. In the Chix first drive of the half Taylor took the snap out of the Shotgun formation, burst up the middle, then he cut outside and ran down the Chix sideline for a 67-yard score. The Chix took the lead 28-21 after the two- point conversion.
After recovering an onside kick, Zeeland East marched down the field again, this time behind the rushing of Josh Fusco. The senior capped the drive with a 4-yard touchdown run. He finished the game with 224 yards on 28 carries.
Wirebaugh added a short touchdown run to get the Maroons back within a score at 36-28, but Taylor put the game away.
The senior kept the ball on a read-option play, ran off left tackle and shoved off an official before taking off for a 73 yard touchdown run. The track star finished the game with 297 yards on 27 carries and five touchdowns.
Zeeland East improves to 4-1 with the win. They'll face Holland next week.
Holland Christian falls to 3-2 and they'll play Hamilton next Friday.
