MICHIGAN - New for the 2018 hunting season, all legal firearms are allowed to be used during the muzzleloader season in chronic wasting disease zones.
The decision was made back in August by the Natural Resources Commission, along with a plethora of other deer hunting regulations.
According to a press release, "The action came after months of commission members and Department of Natural Resources staff hearing from hunters, residents and others interested in the long-term health of the state’s deer population, and a thorough review of the best available science on chronic wasting disease."
CWD is a fatal neurological disease found in deer, elk and moose. The CWD Management Zone is defined in the chart below.
Muzzleloading season in Michigan:
- Zone 1 (Upper Peninsula): Dec. 7 through 16
- Zone 2 (Northern Lower Peninsula): Dec. 7 through16
- Zone 3 (Southern Michigan): Dec. 7 through 23
