GRPD positively identify missing Kalamazoo County woman in death investigation

Police positively identified the human remains Friday, Dec. 7 as Ashley Young. The 32-year old was reported missing on Friday, Nov. 30.

Grand Rapids Police have positively identified a missing Kalamazoo County woman, Ashley Young, in the death investigation involving female remains found on the Southeast Side of the city.

The investigation comes after a woman's body was discovered at a home on Franklin Street near Dolbee Avenue SE on Sunday, Dec. 2. Police say they found a woman's torso in the basement.

Later on, Wednesday, Dec. 5, 29-year-old Jared James Chance was charged with mutilation of a dead body. The mutilation charge is a 10-year felony while concealing a death carries a five-year term.

Court records indicate the offenses occurred on or about Friday, Nov. 30 at a home on Franklin Street where Chance lived in an upstairs apartment.

Police positively identified the human remains Friday, Dec. 7 as Young. The 32-year old was reported missing on Friday, Nov. 30. A Go-Fund-Me has been set up for her funeral expenses.
