Grab your skis and snowboards, Cannonsburg officially opens for the season

Skiers and snowboarders can now head to Cannonsburg.

BELMONT, Mich. - Warmer than normal December temperatures didn't stop Cannonsburg Ski Area in Belmont from opening for the winter season on Saturday.

The hill officially opened at 10 a.m. and stayed open until 8 p.m. Cannonsburg's website listed a snow base of 24 inches on Saturday.

Cannonsburg will also be open on Sunday, and times will vary for the rest of the season depending on the weather. More information can be found on Cannonsburg's website.

The ski area also posted on their Facebook page on Friday, the day before opening before the season, that someone threw a rock at their snow groomer while it was operating. Cannonsburg said that there is now "major damage" to the windshield. They are offering a $1,000 giftcard to whoever provides information that leads to the arrest of the person who threw the rock.

"We are a small business, and things like this are major setbacks to the hill. It affects all of us," the Facebook post read.
