GRPD hosts community retirement party for Chief David Rahinsky

Congrats and farewell Chief Rahinsky!

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Grand Rapids Police Chief David Rahinsky is entering the world of retirement, and the police department is hosting a farewell party to celebrate his last day on the job.

The event is open to the public, "open house style," happening at the police department, located at 1 Monroe Center NW from 3 until 5 p.m.

Rahinsky started as Police Chief of Grand Rapids back July 2014. Supported by 28 years of law enforcement experience, Chief Rahinksy has extensive knowledge of police leadership, crime control and prevention and investigative work.

Chief Rahinsky started his law enforcement career in 1987 in his home city of Philadelphia, where he served as a police officer for the Southeastern Transit Authority. In 1988, he joined the Boward Sheriff's Office in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He spent 18 years with Boward, and eventually became Chief of Police in Pembroke Park in 2001.

Cheif Rahinsky holds a Master of Science degree in Criminology from Florida State University. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Rahinsky says he plans on moving back to Florida, where his wife has accepted a job.
