Allegan County food pantry asking specifically for peanut butter

Thursday, January 24 is National Peanut Butter Day and this seemingly fake holiday actually has a very real meaning for people in Allegan County working to help others.

PLAINWELL, Mich. — It may just seem like the staple of your elementary school lunch box, but peanut butter actually has some great health benefits. It's high in fiber, a good source of protein with heart-healthy fats.

But did you know it's also among the top three requested items among members of the Allegan County Food Pantry Collaborative? That's why the organization is celebrating National Peanut Butter Day by asking specifically for peanut butter donations.

They're kicking off a campaign that runs through the month of February by collecting those donations at the Plainwell Walmart at 412 Oaks Crossing. That runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The donations will be distributed to 16 food pantry locations throughout the county.
