Trump campaign announces MAGA rally in Grand Rapids

The free event will be on Thursday, March 28.

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan — President Donald Trump will be holding a Make America Great Again rally in Grand Rapids on Thursday, March 28.

The event will be held at Van Andel Arena at 7 p.m. and it is free to attend. Doors open at 4 p.m.

The announcement came shortly after the president vetoed a congressional measure to block his declaration of a national emergency.

Grand Rapids was Trump's last campaign stop before he won the 2016 election. The Associated Press reports that Trump narrowly won Michigan's 16 electoral votes.

This is Trump's sixth rally in Grand Rapids since he started his campaign for president in June 2015. He has had 18 rallies in Michigan.

"President Trump looks forward to joining the great people of Michigan as he shares the successes of his administration and the work still left to be done," said Michael Glassner, Chief Operating Officer of Donald J. Trump for President, Inc.

Vice President Mike Pence has made a few stops in West Michigan since taking office. Most recently, he attended a rally for Senate candidate John James in Oct. 2018.

Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox issued this statement regarding the president's visit:

“I am thrilled that President Trump is coming to Michigan. Under his leadership, Michigan families have seen their incomes go up and taxes go down, and our state is winning again. This visit is proof that the President is making Michigan a priority in 2020, and the Michigan Republican Party will do everything in our power to deliver our state’s 16 electoral votes to his reelection.”
