UPDATE: The Michigan Department of Transportation said that US-31 reopened around 6:10 p.m.
The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office said that three cars were involved in crash on US-31 near Ridge Street.
The investigation shows that southbound traffic had stopped on US-31 because the bridge was malfunctioning. An 18-year-old Muskegon resident was traveling south on US-31 and she didn't stop in time for traffic on the road.
She collided with a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by a 49-year-old Grand Haven resident, and that car crashed into a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu driven by a 27-year-old Fennville man.
The 18-year-old woman the 27-year-old man were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
GRAND HAVEN, Mich. - The Grand Haven Department of Public Safety said Friday around 5:30 p.m. that the US-31 drawbridge is stuck open and causing traffic back-ups.
Police said the the north side of the bridge is stuck and the gates are down on both sides.
Drivers are asked to avoid US-31 and northbound traffic should take Lake Michigan Drive to M-231 and southbound traffic should detour to M-104.
The bridge got stuck several times last summer, and the Michigan Department of Transportation budgeted $850,000 for for electrical and mechanical upgrades on the bridge.
Major repairs started on the bridge in February.
