Vicente Rodriguez Ortiz, 22, was sentenced to life without parole for the murder of a Grand Rapids teen.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The 22-year-old Grand Rapids man who killed his teen friend and gunned down a woman will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Vicente Rodriguez Ortiz was sentenced to 35-75 years in prison for the March 18, 2017 murder of 50-year-old Laurie Kay Lundeberg in Grand Rapids.

He pleaded no contest on March 18, 2019 to second-degree murder and felony use of a firearm in Lundeberg's death.

He was also sentenced to mandatory life for first-degree murder in the death of 17-year-old Andre Lamont Hawkins.

Hawkins was shot multiple times outside a home on 2nd Street NW just west of Pine Avenue. Hawkins was shot while sitting in a car. He was with a young woman Ortiz had been dating, and Ortiz apparently was jealous. Ortiz was nabbed the afternoon of Jan. 24, 2018. A police dog chased and bit him as he tried to run away.
