SCHUYLER, Neb. - A 16-truck convoy of West Michigan farmers traveled to Nebraska in order to help fellow farmers impacted by severe flooding.
The group of farmers left Wayland last week and spent Easter weekend bringing relief to farming communities that needed it most in Fremont, Schuyler and Columbus, Nebraska.
But it wasn't just farming supplies. Communities here in Michigan gathered water, food, and Easter baskets for the families in Nebraska that would have gone without.
In the last few weeks, Nebraska was hit hard by two major winter storms that caused widespread flooding and devastating damage from water and ice flows. Officials expect their initial farm damage estimates -- $400 million in damages to crops, and $400 million in lost livestock, will be exceeded, according to the Nebraska Department of Agriculture.
