'It is just a shame' | Vandals damage lights at Heritage Landing Park

The damage to LED lamps at Heritage Landing was discovered Monday as workers prepared the park for the first cruise ship visit of the season

MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. — Vandalism to several lamps at the Heritage Landing bridge was discovered Monday as workers prepared the park for the first cruise ship visit of the season.

The damage could cost the county between $5,000 and $8,000.

The park on Muskegon Lake in downtown Muskegon is owned by the county.

"It is a real shame because so many community-wide and county-wide events are held there. So many large festivals are held there; it is just a shame that someone would do this," said Bob Lukens, Muskegon County Community Development Director.

County leaders are considering adding surveillance cameras to the park.

Previously someone stole a bike rack from the park after cutting it from its base.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Muskegon Police Department at 231-846-8477 or Muskegon County Silent Observer at 231-722-7463.
