HOLLAND, Mich. — LG Energy Solution Michigan released a statement Monday evening saying that due to their expansion and renovations they are "retooling some production lines from (their) current production facility to (their) second factory within (their) Holland site."

They explained that as some production lines are transitioned, less staff will be needed.

"Due to this production gap and automakers realigning the speed of the EV transition, it is with deep regret that we must unfortunately announce layoffs in Holland," the statement read.

They also said that the layoffs will occur in phases. Between December 2023 and January 2024 they expect to lay off around 170 production team members. They said they will remain open during the process and plan to be open and transparent with their workforce.

"We understand the impact this will have on those who are being laid off and will provide those affected with support and assistance. This will include a severance package and outplacement services," read the statement.

LG Energy Solution Michigan said they are continuing to grow and believe they have a bright future in the automotive industry as the expansion project for their second facility is underway. They added that with their recent partnership announcement with Toyota they will supply batteries to all five top global automakers.
