Womanhood: A Women’s History Month celebration through dance

Womanhood is a contemporary dance performance event where you can expect to see a unique blend of dance styles in an intimate setting.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — You’ve likely had many events to choose from this Women’s History Month, and there’s another one happening Thursday, March 28 as we wrap up this last week of March.

Womanhood is a contemporary dance performance event. 13 ON YOUR SIDE spoke with one of the creators, Laura Armenta, who migrated to the U.S. from Mexico and has been dancing for the last 40 years.

She says you can expect to see a unique blend of dance styles in an intimate setting where you can ask the performers about their creative process.

“For me, I think, it’s important to integrate multiple generations in an artistic way. The guest performers are also from different generations and the idea is that through the medium of dance the audience gets to appreciate the message and the conversation of womanhood,” said Armenta.

Attendees can expect choreography and performances by Currents Dance Theater, Archana Madhukar Sardar and Laura Armenta Dance Company.

Womanhood is happening at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Armentality Movement Arts Center on Fulton Street in downtown Grand Rapids. Tickets are $15 online and $20 at the door. To buy your tickets or learn more about the event, click here.
