EAST LANSING, Mich. — Michigan State Police and Public Safety (MSU DPPS) is investigating the assaults of two people in a building on campus.
MSU DPPS said the incident happened on Monday in the Main Library. Seven suspects were identified Tuesday by MSU Police, none of which are affiliated with the university.
Investigators believe that the suspects may have been "potentially selecting the victims because of the suspects’ sexual orientation bias."
Following the assaults on Monday, the university issued a warning to all students, faculty and staff.
MSU DPPS is continuing to investigate the attacks and plans on submitting the investigation to the Ingham County Prosecutor's Office with a request for charges.
University police are reminding people that if you believe that you have been discriminated against or harassed, you can report the incident to the MSU Office of Institutional Equity.
"Ensuring the overall safety of the Spartan community is our top priority. If anyone receives a targeted or personal threat or has information relevant to the investigation, they should immediately contact our department at 517-355-2221. In case of an emergency, contact 911 – call if you can, text if you can’t," MSU DPPS wrote in a release Tuesday.
