One week after bakery break-in, another Wealthy Street shop burgled

Both shops were forced to close for a short period while employees cleaned up shattered glass and boarded up windows.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Good Judy's Market & Juice Bar just became the second Wealthy Street shop broken into within one week.

The market's glass front door was shattered and one or more burglars were able to enter the store on Tuesday night, employees said in a Facebook post. They closed the next day. It's unknown the extent of what was stolen.

One week ago, Wealthy Street Bakery was similarly broken into. Someone shattered the glass front door and entered early in the morning.

Andy Havemeier, who owns Wealthy Street Bakery and Hall Street Bakery, said he and his wife were in Kalamazoo when he got the call around 5:45 a.m. that someone had broken in.

According to Havemeier, the third-shift baker had already left and the morning crew had not come in yet, so no one was injured when it happened.

Havemeier said while it appears the suspect looked around, nothing was taken. The bakery reopened later than same day after spending the morning boarding up broken windows, glass and debris.

Good Judy's expects to be back open Thursday, April 18, after they can clean up.
