The Philadelphia Phillies are 19-28 and nine games behind the Washington Nationals in the NL East, and currently have the second-lowest scoring offense in MLB. With little realistic hope of turning the season around and fighting for a Wild Card spot, many fans are calling for minor-league prospects to be given extensive playing time in the majors.

General manager Rubén Amaro Jr. told CSN Philadelphia that the club will not rush young players, and blasted fans who don’t “understand the game.”

“They don’t understand the game. They don’t understand the process. There’s a process. And then they [expletive] and complain because we don’t have a plan. There’s a plan in place and we’re sticking with the plan. We can’t do what’s best for the fan. We have to do what’s best for the organization so the fan can reap the benefit of it later on. That’s the truth.”

If Amaro does indeed have a plan, it hasn’t been working. Since winning 102 games in 2011, the Phillies have gone 246-287.
