LUDINGTON, Mich. (Mason County Press) - A substitute teacher working at Ludington Area School District has been barred from working in the district following allegations from a student that the substitute swore at a student. A communication from the Superintendent Jason Kennedy stated that the alleged incident occurred on Friday, May 17 at Foster Elementary School, which holds grades three through five.

“At 2:50 p.m., Principal Brian Dotson was approached by a student at recess on the playground from a classroom that had a substitute teacher working in that room,” Kennedy stated. “The student shared with Mr. Dotson that the substitute teacher had ‘swore at a student.’

“Mr. Gillett and Mr. Dotson then followed the students to the classroom following recess. Mr. Gillett remained in the classroom with the students for the remainder of the day, while Mr. Dotson questioned the substitute teacher. While the substitute teacher denied the allegations, the District took precautionary measures and immediately barred the substitute teacher from working in the District in future substitute teaching assignments.

“The District continues to investigate the situation, but has also taken immediate steps to ensure that future instances such as these with this individual do not occur,” Kennedy said. “The safety and well-being of our students and staff are of the utmost importance to LASD. If you have any questions, please be sure to contact the school office regarding this matter.”
